The Epic Fan Experience

The biggest fan event in HBO history for the biggest show on television

At the height of Game of Thrones' cultural dominance, HBO staged its largest promotional event to date—The Epic Fan Experience—a one-night transformation of Brooklyn's Barclays Center into the world of Westeros.

More than 7,000 fans filled the arena for an advanced screening of the Season 4 premiere, surrounded by elaborate sets featuring original costumes and rare props from the series. The entire space became an immersive environment, with photo installations, interactive displays, and the opportunity for fans to sit upon the Iron Throne itself.

Cast members and author George R. R. Martin made surprise appearances throughout the evening, while one lucky fan walked away with a full-scale Iron Throne valued at $30,000. Proceeds from the event benefited charity, extending the impact beyond the fan community.

The evening became a defining cultural moment—demonstrating how television marketing could scale into a live, cinematic form of world-building.
