For Game of Thrones at SXSW, HBO invited fans to step into Arya Stark’s world through an interactive installation that transformed sword training into personalized art. Each participant’s movements were captured through a custom generative art system that translated the physics of swordplay—trajectory, speed, and precision—into one-of-a-kind visual compositions. Equipped with replica swords embedded with gyroscope and accelerometer sensors, users struck on-screen targets that exploded into layers of light, texture, and motion—dragon scales, raven feathers, and blades—all drawn from the visual language of Westeros. The result: an instantly shareable digital portrait, equal parts art piece and badge of fandom, blending technology, storytelling, and design into a singular, cinematic experience.
